Tribute to a Friend

In 1972, I was invited by Bob Getzen as the first Canadian citizen to apprentice and learn band instrument repair in a special program offered at Allied Music Corp, Elkhorn Wisconsin.
Allied Music opened its doors to only six
apprentices each year. Those of us who graduated learned our trade from experts
but without Bob's generosity, it would not of happened.
Bob was like a father figure to all students. To quote Michael Sammons, a classmate of mine, "I was only one year out of Viet Namm and had long hair and a beard when I was accepted at Allied. Bob didn't care what I looked like, he treated me with respect. He was my mentor and main inspiration. I owe my life as a repairman to Bob Getzen".
Bob Getzen was a friend. He will be remembered.
