When I was to change schools and start grade 6, I had to pick a musical instrument for the new music program that I would be starting in the fall. Older students from the elementary school came and performed in the library to show us the new instruments. I picked the tenor sax because the guy playing it was wearing sunglasses and he played "tequila". That's all it took really. But then I faced the question of where to get my instrument and whether I (or rather my parents) should rent or purchase right away. We went to Musicare as our first choice. The help we received in choosing the instrument, the payment structure and the service made my whole family very excited about this new 'toy'. When I arrived at home I tried it right away and haven't put it down since. Now, 15 years later, with the help of Musicare and their continued service (both for repairs and new accessories), I am still playing saxophone (baritone and tenor) in a band called "The Groovebug". The Groovebug was voted as Ottawa's "Favourite New Artist" in 2000 and we've released two CDs since. Musicare has been a proud sponsor of the band since our early days and they're very familiar with the faces of the guys in the band (all 9 of us) as we continue to bring in instruments that are continuously 'played out'. Especially after the band's summer tour of western Canada in 2002. Thanks Musicare for all of your support, when I first started and as I continue playing today. Michael Dalrymple |
